Learn more about the Happy Hollow!

Sensory Development

Children will find textures to trace their hands over, hear a symphony of sound from the different animals of the house and see flashes of colors. The movement of colorful beads in Ferah the Firefly will catch a curious eye. Carl the Caterpillar’s colorful rings clink and clank together as a child grasps and pulls them. All of these activities help toddlers develop and grow.

Inclusive Play

The Happy Hollow was designed to encourage inclusive play in diverse classrooms. The interior and exterior keep play near the ground so that everyone can reach. Whether children are playing house in the fantastic interior or exploring the many small wonders on the outer shell, everyone can play together.

Motor Skill Development

Children will flip levers on the front of the Mailbox with Chimes and work their whole arm to spin Bertie the Bluebird by the window. Each animal companion and even some of the plants, present tasks that work on the development of skills that will eventually lead them to be able to use a pencil, throw a ball and many other motions that are necessities for growing children.

Indoor or Outdoor Play

Designed to be mobile, the Happy Hollow fits well in both indoor and outdoor environments. Children can experience the nature-inspired elements of the structure outdoors, immediately connecting the insects and animals to the area around them. Or on days when the weather is less than ideal, children can find a safe retreat filled with warm friends.

Address the developmental needs of your toddlers and preschoolers with the Happy Hollow. Sized to handle small daycares and yet sturdy enough to withstand hours of daily play, the Happy Hollow works for any childcare or preschool. Encourage their growth with this interactive playhouse that aids their learning through play.

Engaging Sensory Play

On the exterior of the play structure, sensory play abounds with the Mailbox with Chimes that dings, Lily Lady Bug Spinner whose staggered dance emits a clicking sound and Shelly the Snail Drum with a gentle boom. Marty the Sensory Mushroom is covered in different textures that introduce children to beginning patterns. Ferah the Firefly’s rattling beads is a visual waterfall of colors as her body spins.

Growing Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Young toddlers and pre-k children need extensive work on their motor skills in preparation for school. The multiple activities on the Happy Hollow allows for practice on small and large motions that will be necessary once they reach school. Carl the Caterpillar’s rings are a perfect exercise for gripping and moving small objects. In contrast, the three Leaf Slides work larger muscles to crawl up and slide back down. Bertie the Bluebird requires children to combine fine motor skills by gripping a small crank with gross motor skills using the arm, elbow and more to turn him in gentle circles.

Socialization, Solo Play and Inclusivity

The Happy Hollow is called that because everyone is learning to play together. Children can work together to play house in the fantasy themed interior or play in parallel play beside one another. Yet other times, if there is only one child, they can entertain themselves as they learn with each of the activities. Everything that is meant to be played with is set at ground level allowing every child in your classroom will be able to reach and interact with the pieces on it.

Educational Uses

With each purchase, an Educational Guide is included to help you to enrich their play with learning opportunities inspired by the structure. Within the guide, examples of related activities and pre-literary experiences are suggested to get you started. Even when the lessons are through, children will have a visual reminder of what they have learned as they play later.

Every teacher knows that even with careful guidance, children tend to wear out teaching materials and play equipment. The Happy Hollow takes this into account by keeping children safe with its rotationally molded plastic body and encasing the necessary metal parts behind matching plastic pieces. All of the plastic is UV stabilized designed to handle daily exposure to the sun and hardy enough for most daily weather.
